Hello Steeler Nation in Arizona,
What a great time to be a Steeler’s fan … well let me think about that … I’m 50 now and have been a fan as far back as my memory can remember which is somewhere between age 7-10. My family … parents, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, are all Dallas Cowboy fans. From the beginning they wondered what was wrong with me. The first game I remember was a Steeler vs Cowboys game. I fell in love with football and the Steelers simutaneously. I remember my dad trying to correct me saying I was cheering for the wrong team. The attempted brainwashing became more intense over the next few years and involved my whole family tree. But I wouldn’t budge and never to this day have I wavered from the Black and Gold through lean years and those GLORIOUS YEARS IN THE 70’s. I was considered the “Blacksheep” of the family…but contrar … I’m the Black & Gold sheep of the family.
Of course I get dogged about that last Steeler-Dallas Superbowl…it seems like they go bogeyed and foam at the mouth as they cling to the only time they “won”.
I, with a big shit-eating grin on my face, inform them that any team with 2 Quarterbacks would win any game. Of course with wild, confused eyes they ask what I’m talking about. I say, “Well you had Troy Aikman and Neil O’Donnell” Neil O’Donnell was the real Dallas SuperBowl MVP as he had a perfect Quarterback rating, throwing perfect passes to Dallas defenders in full stride. Even with that Pittsburgh still almost won the damn game.
What I’m trying to say is it has been great to be a Steeler’s fan all my life including now. This season is yet another chapter in the history of the Greatest Football Team In History. And there is nothing like the Steeler family and Steeler Nation…you gotta’ love it brothers and sisters. I’m stuck here in Tucson and one of the Famous Sams’ here is the Steelers bar. But this place, Harold’s, strikes a genetic chord in my being. The designated Famous Sam’s here in Tucson is “Steelers” because somebody figured out that Steeler Nation would pack the place wall to wall during games. It’s money to them. But Harold’s has that feeling, something beyond money. I want to get up there for the SuperBowl … if someone could tell me the best way to get up there other than a personal vehicle … I got a prescription drug DUI (my own prescription from the VA) and can’t drive for another month. I can fly to SkyHarbor or take a shuttle…from there is there a bus or anything ???
Thanks family I hope to see you… Steeler Ron
hey all i’m a big steeler fan just saw you guy’s on espn’s first take and join your site us steeler fans got to stick together anyway just stoping in to cheer the team on to the 6th super bowl god would that be so fine start the other hand. i set up a shrine every week in the computer room and my puppy is known as the steelers puppy(rest of family are bengals fans ugg) and when i get it all done each week the puppy has to have her pics taken on the foton laying on the steelers blanket next to the cheerleader doll.GO STEELERS
Dallas Cowboy fans always disgust me …. “America’s Team,” … what a friggin joke. I don’t agree that the Cleveland Browns are out greatest rival … Dallas is. In the Steeler historical records the “Steeler” that is a blemish is Neil O’Donnell, Superbowl MVP Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Even in spite of Neil we still almost won that damn SuperBowl.
But my main point concerns “America’s” team. The Pittsburgh Steelers are America’s team in reality. This team embodies middle class America, “Joe Lunchbox”, “Joe six-pack” … hard working, ass-kicking American’s … the heart of what makes America.
AMERICA’s TEAM … The Pittsburgh Steelers.
SuperBowl 43 … Go Steelers !!!!!!!!!
