Amen and Halleluiah!  Say it with me, brothers and sisters, football is back and defense of our title begins.  Start cooking the Kielbasa and Pierogies, ice down the Iron City and stock up on Pepto Bismal.  It’s here – Steelers Football, baby!  I have been in a comatose state as far as sports go, only waking when our web footed brothers on ice took their third Stanley cup. There was no greater moment than Mario hoisting up the Stanley Cup and kissing it. Mario deserved it more than anyone!  That was awesome.  What a seven game series; calamari anyone?  I don’t know why I was in that comatose state… could have been from all of those IC Lights I drank during the Super Bowl; or it could be from watching the Pirates go for the record of futility in baseball.  Sixteen loosing seasons – ouch , but they have an awesome ballpark!  Whatever the reason, the Steelers football giant inside of me has awakened with the start of camp and the anticipation of our first Steelers party at Harold’s on August 13th against the AZ Cardinals.  Let’s party, boys and girls!  The champions are back! That’s right, folks, Harold’s gets to start the party early this year since our first preseason game will be televised against the AZ redbirds.  Obviously the game is nowhere close in importance to the last time we played the Cards, but we will have a hell of a party – Pittsburgh Style and Champion Style.

TEAM NOTES: First, a few notes on the team.  We lost a few notables when free agency came calling, and we wish the departing champions from last year well: Nate Washington, Kendall Simmons, Marvel Smith, Byron Leftwich, Larry Foote and Mcfadden.  I expect the O line to follow up on how well they played toward the end of last year.  I am also expecting big things out of last year’s rookies: WR Limas Sweed and RB Rashad Mendenhall.  Mark my words, these two guys are going to make an impact.  On the defensive side, William Gay is the man on the corner and Lawrence Timmons I believe will have a monster year as Blitzburgh will definitely be sack happy come opening day.  I can’t wait for football and I can’t wait to enjoy Sundays with over 600 of my closest friends. Yeah baby!  Taking a verse from Hank Williams Jr., “Are you ready for some football”?  Are you ready to party (@ Harold’s)???  I am!!!!!

FAN CLUB NEWS:  Win a trip to the Burgh + airfare + 2 tickets to a game + hotel accommodations – ONLY on August 13th!

Harold’s Steelers Fan Club gets geared up for another awesome year.  Harold’s, with support from Iron City Brewery, will be giving away (oh yeah, baby, listen to this!) 2 tickets to a Steelers game at Heinz Field plus hotel accommodations and airfare.  Can you believe it?  Iron City Brewery is proud to offer a chance on August 13th for one of our fan club members to win this amazing trip.  You must be in attendance on August 13th for a chance to win this package valued at approximately $2,000.  Who’s not coming?  Are you kidding me?  You may not get a chance like this ever without paying for it.

Harold’s Black and Gold Club now has over 650 active members.  To all of the new people, I welcome you to the best Steelers Fan Club in the country.  To all of the current members, thank you for your continued support of the black and gold.   You are the ones that make this club possible and made Harold’s known as the best damn Steelers bar anywhere. After all, what other Steelers bar had over 3,500 screaming fans on Super Bowl Sunday?   We did, baby!  What other fan club organizer was on ESPN (twice), three radio shows in two different states, and in over 10 newspapers across the country including The Post Gazette, The LA Times and The Baltimore Sun?  Not to mention live on Good Morning Sacramento and on all five of our local TV networks!  I’m proud of it, and all of yinz guys should be, too.  The only disappointment was not appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman I could have done a segment of his stupid human tricks. Now that the paparazzi are gone I can resume living a normal life, get back to business and start practicing my table slide for opening day.

We are proud to announce our new beer sponsor, Coors and Miller brewing and local distributor Crescent Crown,.  They will be the beer of choice along with Iron City.  I know this makes Jimmy happy.  Fan club membership this year will be the same: $15.00 for the season if you sign up on August 13th or opening day.  After that it will be $20.00.  This year’s membership will entitle you to receive a club T-shirt (championship design), a club pass and our newsletter via email.  The club pass entitles you to receive a 10% discount on all Steelers merchandise.  You will also be entitled to purchase one beer every week during a Steelers game for only 10 cents – your choice of any Coors, Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Miller Highlife, Miller 64 or an Iron City product.  That’s right!  Ice-cold Iron City beer has been replenished since we sold out on SB43.  We sold over 2,800 bottles of Iron City beer during the Super Bowl!  Thank goodness for those Port-o-Johns. Every Sunday morning Harold’s offers an All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet for only $9.99.  Drink specials during all Sunday football games are: $4.00 Finlandia Bloody Marys, $5 Polomulu bombers (Finlandia mango vodka & Verve energy drink) $4 Mimosas, and $3 Coors, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Miller Highlife, Miller 64 and $3.50 Iron City and IC Light bottles.

If you’re interested in having a season table pass at Harold’s, the August 13th game may be your only opportunity. We do have a few tables and barstools available.  You must attend the August 13th game to put your name in for a chance to get a table. A season table pass gurantees your same table through out the season, and discounted admission into Harold’s for post season games. You  still need to call in your reservation  for each game and identify yourself as a season table pass holder.

Season Table Pass Holders: You will also have a chance to renew your season table, insuring you your spot for weeks to come and creating less confusion for reservations. Members who already have a season pass will have first choice of keeping their existing table or selecting a different one that may be available.Season Table passes wil be: $75-per bar stool, a table for 1-4 people $85, a table 5-10 people $170 , a table 11-20 people $320.

Just watched a great game in which our beloved Steelers beat the “Towel Stomper” Titans. Here we go 1-0 … you know the nice thing about Terry Bradshaw is that you never had to have a bottle of Maalox or roll of Tums on hand while watching a game … with Big Ben it is a different story … but, as usual he came up big when the chips were on the table.
A couple of extremely rare moments in this game: Yes Hines Ward fumbled … but what was rare is that I think that was actually the first time I didn’t see Hines with his eternal “Florida Sunshine” smile. I was like “wow” I never knew what he looked like without smiling.
Another bit of game trivia, and I believe this is a historical first. Ben Roethlisberger – Santonio Holmes hooked up for the last touchdown scored in the last game of last season … the SuperBowl of course. Ben and Santonio hooked up for the first touchdown scored in the first game of this season… think about those odds !!
The only sad note was the injury to Troy Palamalu…up to that point he was dominating and stifling the Titans offensive rhythm, and spearheading the Pittsburgh “D”. When he went out, there was a very noticeable difference in the defensive flow and the Towel Stomping Titans made some offensive headway. But the rest of the D finally caught on fire and made some good and crucial stops.
The most underrated Steeler is Mewelde Moore. He is a hidden clutch player that was part of the reason we won the SuperBowl last season, and was clutch in this game also, after he was inserted in place of a “flat” Willie Parker. In my opinion, Mendehall and Moore need many more touches. Parker seems to be on the other side of his peak and headed toward the horizon.
Anyway Steeler Nation we are in for another great season of Steeler football…”7″ is a very real possibility and I’m already on the bandwagon. Go Steelers !!!

Thanks for the blog Please keep it up good stuff.

Danny
