LET’S WAKE UP FANS!!

By harolds | October 3rd, 2009

I think we got a little complacent after winning our 6th SB ring and it is hard to focus on football when it is over 100 frickin’ degrees. I know that is no excuse! My suggestion is to drink a case of IC or Coors light beer, eat a pound of Kielbasa and pierogies and lock yourself up in the bathroom with the Steeler SB edition of Sports illustrated and some pumpkin spice potpourri and start focusing on our beloved team. We are the best fans in the NFL and we never lose faith. I will say I woke up this morning, went outside and there was a slight chill in the air; I know 60 degrees is not a chill but it worked for me. “For me it signifies that summer turns to fall, and the leaves change into brilliant colors, painting the landscapes of the North-east, and when the birds’ God-given senses feel the change of the season and begin their migration from North to the South. The time has arrived; the time when the mere mortal men of Latrobe are transformed into Deities. These Gods of iron and coal that are so loved and worshiped by disciples all across this grand world are ready to take their place in history once again.” I love that quote, its mine by the way. Ok listen, I know we are all freaking out, a 1 and 2 frickin’ start, losing to the Cincinnati Bungles, what the F?! Can it get any worse? Well, only if we would of lost the stinking Browns. I know we are discouraged for our Super bowl champs, blowing a back to back fourth quarter lead, that’s unacceptable. I was so pissed that I through my Primanti Bros. sandwich at the TV last week…at least it wasn’t my IC beer. 4th and 10 and we can’t make a tackle. I have to apologize to Ben and Mimi Fast I think some of my coleslaw might have ended up on their table. That kind of behavior is uncharacteristic, but it was necessary.  Please, who hasn’t thrown a Primanti Bros. sandwich at the television. I will say I do not encourage that behavior, but it’s better than ripping out a urinal in our bathroom. Well  black and gold faithful, it’s time to turn it around and it all starts with us, the fans, the pride of Steeler nation. So all you fans we must keep the faith and we must believe that we are the six time Super bowl champs, The Pittsburgh Steelers. The point being, September is great because we can stop cheering for the Pirates, we know their not going to have a winning season again and focus our attention to our beloved football season. The fact is September is when a football team starts to get a feel for each other but wins and loses do not matter as much in September as the do in the months to follow. Look at Tony Romo QB for the Dallas Cowgirls, best record in September last 3 years, but how many Super bowl rings does he have? Nada, nix, ni, zero zilch zippo.

STEELER FOOTBALL NOTES:
I must say I don’t understand how we are 1 and 2; I feel we are playing good football, not indicative of our record though. Let’s look at last year: our concern was protection for Big Ben and the offensive line. The o-line has played well even though we have not established the run like I wish we would have and the protection from Ben has been great.  What I am most disappointed about is Mendenhall, where is he and hello, it’s time to step up! We need to be able to get that 1 or 2 yard run to keep drives alive, we haven’t done that. They have resigned Carey Davis from last year; maybe he will provide the sparkin or running game. I love what our rookie receiver Mike Wallace has brought to the table, he can actually catch the ball, and man can he fly. Note to Limas Sweed you will be playing for the browns soon, it is time to catch the ball. Mike Tomlin says he doesn’t have a dog house but if he did Sweed would be there. On another note our defense is playing well, but they need to play better and to give up two forth quarter leads, I don’t get it. I know we have injuries but it is the NFL, all teams have injuries that’s no excuse. James Harrison are you kidding me one sack, please, I know your being held every play but that did not stop you last year. I think Lebeau will fix that problem this week and I feel sorry for Phillip who will drown in the 3 Rivers. We have one pissed off defense that is going top make some one pay and that will be Phillip cry me a River. I want yinz to watch LB Lawrence Timmons, I think this kid is going to step up big time.

Hey fans I am making a personal call to yinz guys who are part of the best damn Steeler bar period. Once again, our past great Steeler player has called upon me personally to rally support from our great fan club. Andy Russell former Steeler LB who has been to Harold’s a handful of times has asked for our support. Andy has a charitable foundation that raises money for causes such as prostate cancer. This charity is close to my heart because my father has prostate cancer and is a survivor. We once again are doing a raffle to help Andy raise money please read the information below, and in the next couple of weeks if you can please purchase a ticket for $20 to win an all expense trip back to the Burgh for a Steeler game and dinner with Andy. This is a Steeler fan’s once in a lifetime opportunity. Please show your support. Thank You.

This Sunday, October 4th, kickoff is at 5:20 pm. Harold’s is going all out so we can short circuit the SD chargers. That’s right, it’s time for the Steeler Polka. Harold’s will be playing all your favorite Steeler fight songs to put you in the mood. We will also be giving away prizes from KUPD whose DJ’s will be here, and It’s going to be awesome baby! Coors girls will be giving away T-shirts, hats and other cool stuff. In addition Harold’s is going to offer yinz Steelers fans, based off a Steeler victory a 20% discount off your food bill that night only.

At this point you’re probably asking yourself what’s the big deal? Why is Harold’s going all out this Sunday? The big deal is that it’s a “must win” for the Steelers against a good Charger team at home, It’s going to be a tough game, we need to win. We all know going 1 and 3 when Baltimore is undefeated will make it almost impossible to win the division. Plus what could be better than having some great food, drinking some cold beer and being together with over 500 of your best friends (Steeler fans) to watch the Steelers kick the @#$% out of San Diego. What the hell kind of name is the Chargers anyhow, it reminds me of Enron the energy co. that fraudulently cost Americans millions of dollars.   I’ll see yinz at Harold’s for kickoff. Bring your terrible towels and wear your sacred Black & Gold.

Watched the Pittsburgh Steelers vs san diego chargers. Finally it looks like the running game is back in Pittsburgh. I was waiting for Coach Tomlin to make the adjustment and give Rashad Mendenhall a shot. I guess Mendenhall was giving a half-hearted effort in practice thus the decision not to play him in previous games. Combined with the due respect earned by Willie Parker for his watch during which he faithfully carried on the Black & Gold work-ethic pride. Willie is sadly in the twilight of his career… Bless you Willie Parker. Mendenhall & Mr Can-Do Mewelde Moore add a powerful dimension to the Steeler’s offense. That spiral Melwelde tossed was sweet, tight, and right-on. Melwelde is an underrated, consistent, versatile player that gets the job done when it needs doing, and is clutch. Mendenhall is a back that needs the touches and once he gets them he steamrolls. He’s a bruising type back that can gradually wear down a defense. He’ll be even more dangerous when he learns to put his helmet down and run lower. He’s young though and this will come with coaching and experience. The Steelers looked like the Steelers in this game. This game re-established my seat on the “Ring 7″ bandwagon.
Finally the “Dallas Cowgirls” and Tony Romo came up. Whimpy Tony Romo brought back bitter memories of another famous Dallas Cowboy quarterback… Neil O’Donnell… who once helped Dallas win a SuperBowl against the Steelers, Neil having a perfect quarterback rating when Troy Aikman was on the sidelines. If not for O’Donnell’s stellar play for the Cowboys, we would be searching for Ring #8 !!
