Watch The Steelers Pluck The Feathers Off Those Ravens!!

By harolds | January 15th, 2009

raven-roadkill

Yoi and double yoi – or even triple yoi – Why am I speaking in tongues ala Myron Cope? In remembrance of that great man, the Tennessee Titans felt the curse of the towel! I have something to say to you, Jevon Kearse, “Blow on this”. I would like to see Lendale White do all the stomping he wants in his living room while he watches the Steelers pluck the feathers off those Ravens. I brought out the triple yoi which I only do on special occasions. The triple yoi is for us beating the Ravens three times in a season. I heard it a hundred times; it’s hard to beat a team three times in one season – true, if you’re the frickin Cleveland Browns but we are talking about the “Men of Steel”. Three time victors, you better believe it baby and I will witness it at Harold’s with over 2000 of my closest Steeler friends. That’s correct baby over 2000 chip chop ham loving, Iron City beer drinking, crazy terrible towel waving, bleeding black and gold fans! The question is “where will you be?”

What a crowd last week and what energy reminiscent of our Superbowl 40 run – oh yeah the feeling is back! With the great crowd swelling to about 1600 people, everything was great, plenty of parking, plenty of beer and plenty of Pittsburgh “smash mouth” football! Two stats say it all – Fast Willie had over 140 yards, not to mention the Steelers D with 4 sacks – that’s how we roll! This week’s party will be even bigger. Pittsburgh Baby!

By Admin | December 31st, 2008

The Terrible HouseI’ve got a feeling Pittsburgh’s going to the playoffs! Yeah baby, our black and gold are back to host a home playoff game Jan 11th @ 2:45 Arizona time. Wow what a season! I don’t know where to start – is it yinz the great fired up fan club at Harold’s or could it be the Steelers 12-4 record vs the toughest NFL schedule? I will give you the answer on Feb. 2nd. We have the Lombardi trophy in our sites, we just need to stay focused. What do I mean about staying focused?

1) we need to hang a Steeler flag or sign in our yards or paint our homes Black and Gold (see attached photo)

2) we need to make sure we have our terrible towels ready to smack Lendale White’s arse if Tennessee is fortunate enough to play us again.

3) we need to eat kielbasa and drink Iron City once a week until Jan 11th.

4) we need to stock up on chip chop ham and watch all of the Steeler Super Bowl highlights. 5) Most importantly, we need to make our reservations at the greatest Steeler bar in America – Harold’s Corral! I am doing my part, I have over140 cases of IC light and 80 cases of Iron City on reserve to get us through the post season – oops I guess I better order more.

It has been a great year for our boys, AFC north Champions, the #1 defense thanks to Dick Lebeau, 12 wins with three to go – absolutely amazing! What a way to end the season – beating the brownies 31 to 0. In case you didn’t know we have beaten the browns the last 11 games and have won 17 out of 18 but for me it never gets old. “ if its brown flush it down” Just in case Bill Cower still reads my newsletters, stay retired coach – if you’re thinking about coaching the Brownies I have too much respect for you to let you humiliate yourself like that, go coach the New York Jets they could use some help. Congratulations to Hines Ward for his 800th career catch and his 5th 1000 yard season. Hines definitely resembles what Pittsburgh is about – toughness, unselfishness and being a team player. I’ll take Hines any and every day over Terrell Owens, that’s why the Cowboys will be watching the Steelers play in the playoffs while Romo is in Mexico with what’s her name. Well that’s it for me, the Iron City is wearing off and I got some perogies to eat.  May God bless you and your families, Our Country and soldiers who defend it, and our beloved Steelers.  Here’s to a healthy, wealthy Super Bowl winning 2009.

Here we go Steelers, here we go!

Playoffs…Playoffs… did I hear some one say Playoffs? They’re here and baby we’re ready to roll. Harold’s is the place for the greatest fans to watch the greatest team play for the Lombardi trophy. Come watch the Steelers get their fix for number six hey that’s catchy “fix for six” see what IC beer can do? Calling all Fans – It’s time to make your reservation for Harold’s Corral January 11th 2009 @ 2:45 – come early to get the party started. A couple of key points: there will be a cover charge for fans who do not have season passes – all season pass holders will need to check in at a VIP entrance. All fans who attend who pay a cover will be entered in a seperate raffle to receive an autographed Rod Woodson jersey , plus other prizes. We will have the best Tailgate tent “Heinz field West” for our fans, heaters and Giant screen Tvs with stadium sound so you don’t have to miss out on any of the action. We will have plenty of IC Light and Iron City beer to go around. If you haven’t been to Harold’s for a playoff game or the Super Bowl you have missed out on Steeler Nirvana. Steelers beat Pats

By Admin | December 3rd, 2008

It’s been a while since the Patriots have seen a loss come at home against the Steelers, eleven years to be exact.  However, Sunday afternoon was a game that Pittsburgh will see was more meaningful than any other game this season.

It all started out like any other game these two teams have had in the past.  The Patriots jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead directly from an interception by none other than Mike Vrabel.  Steelers fans become ancy as they soon saw that this may become just like any other game they played against the Pats: slow and painful.

Going into halftime with the game tied, it seemed that this game was too close to both sides.  From that point out it was all Steelers.

The physicality and determination of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second half at Gillette Stadium really helped them surge past the Pats and overcome the packed house they played in front of.

Twenty-three unanswered points came out of the two last quarters in the game along with five consecutive turnovers that truly defined this game and gave the win to the Steelers.

The Patriots didn’t seem to be themselves this weekend.  1-for-13 on third-down conversions, five turnovers, and a mediocre quarterback, something tells me they’re a whole lot different than they were just a year ago when they played the Black and Gold.

This year, the Steelers brought everything they had.

Besides Ben Roethlisberger’s one interception very early on, he performed at optimum efficiency completing 17 of 33 with two touchdowns and a 180 yards through the air.  This performance, of course, was due to the increased play by the offensive line.  While the Patriots came full force more than half the time in the game with blitzes and stunts, the O-line still managed to pick it all up and protect Mr. Roethlisberger the way that they should have from day one.

The defense allowed only 267 yards to their 333 and played extremely physical, especially in the fourth quarter when James Harrison stripped to balls from the hands of Cassel. At the tail end of the third quarter, the Patriots began to fall apart at the seams and from that point on, the Steelers D led them to an unheard of 23-point upset of the untouchable team of last year.

The brute play of the entire defensive squad demonstrated their ability to come together as a team and cause good things to happen.  It has been inconsistent for this entire year, but for only the second or third time, the entire team was consistent and on the same page.

Thanks to a great visceral defense and systematic offense, the Steelers have now placed themselves atop the AFC along with the one other team.

The Titans.

Now that they have overcome one boundary in their season, the Steelers must look to beat the Titans and hope that along with that they lose another game or two and everything will be sweet for Tomlin and his boys.

The Patriots on the other hand have not had too great of a season and currently stand at 7-5, looking in at the playoffs instead of having everything set for them already.  The Jets are atop that division and look to run away with it for the first time in a few years, so what will Bill Belichick do?  We shall see in these crucial upcoming weeks.  Until next Sunday at 4:15, ?? ???????? (goodbye!) and beat them Cowboys!

Quick Hits

Well let’s see what we have this week.  Hm, well where’s that paper, I don’t know I must have left it at home…

Oh wait, I don’t need that to tell you this; O LINE!

Yes, our offensive line truly, truly did surprise me this Sunday.  The Patriots continued to load 8-9 men in the box at least for the first quarter and the O-line held up pretty well.  Granted there were still many mistakes made, you take what you can get and apparently this is what they were willing to give.  What a game guys, keep that up and we can actually make forward progress (no pun intended!).

James Harrison is truly amazing.  I mean, did you see that?  Not one, but TWO forced fumbles in one quarter.  That’s truly a great thing to see.  Not only is he the best linebacker on the team, but I can almost go as far as saying that this man is the best linebacker in the league (at least currently-speaking).  Joey Porter may be the only other linebacker that seems to be atop it all, but besides that, my boy James Harrison truly is great.

Speaking of great defensive players, don’t we also have one of the best safeties in the league?  Troy Polamalu’s ailing body affected his play since a couple of years ago, but suddenly a fully repaired, locked and loaded Troy is back on the field and has six interceptions this year including a clutch one-hander earlier on.

I believe that this last man does not recieve the respect due to him.  Since a couple years ago, I’ve been saying that he is a great wide receiver and has not seen as many passes or playing time as he should.

Luckily, this year he has began to prove himself. Hello Sir Nate Washington.  With three huge receptions for forty-one yards this past weekend, he has really become a go-to guy when Hines and Santonio are double-covered or not open.  Congrats, Nate, keep up the good work and we really do need you on this team.

Well that’s all for this week.  Tune in next week at the same time for more of the outrageous quick hits.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programing…

Love of Sports

“Here we go Stee-lers, Here we go!!!”

The rumblings from the Terrible Towel waving frenzied faithful echo through Heinz Field, across the Ohio and the Allegheny, off the U.S. Steel Tower and over the desert mountains of Arizona.

Wait a second … the mountains of Arizona?!?

About 20 miles north of Phoenix sits the quiet desert town of Cave Creek, and in that town is the official site of Heinz Field West. Harold’s Cave Creek Corral is the place for all faithful of the Black & Gold to meet on Sunday, watch their beloved Steelers and knock down a couple Iron City lagers.

Harold’s has its own official Steelers Fan Club with over 600 active members, all of whom receive a t-shirt, newsletter subscription and discounts on beer for a small $15 annual fee.

During the games, a DJ plays all of the Steeler songs, the bar crowd participates in Steelers chants and the volume of the game is pumped through the sound system. The fan club’s been going strong for more than 10 seasons now and has grown by leaps and bounds since it started with just five or six friends.

The fan club’s been the lovechild of Harold’s owner Danny Piacquadio, a Pittsburgh native who moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State several years ago. Piacquadio and his group of friends marketed the idea, and slowly the club membership started to grow from 20-30 members in the first few years to the current membership today.

Piacquadio’s remained hands-on, organizing West Coast trips to watch the Steelers in person and even organizing charity events to raise money for Steeler Charities. Steeler broadcaster Bill Hillgrove, a friend of Piacquadio, recently put former Steeler great Mel Blount in touch with him when Blount asked for help with his Mel Blount Youth Home charity. Piacquadio was more than willing to step up to the plate by hosting a charity golf tournament and raffle which raised over $35,000 for the youth home.

Harold’s is famously overcrowded on game day, but there’s a way to guarantee you always have a place to sit and watch the game, no matter how many Steeler faithful arrive on Sunday. Harold’s sells season tickets for individual bar stools – or even an entire table. For $75, your seat will be yours on game day all season long. However, if you’re looking for a seat during the 2008 season, you’d better act quickly, because they’re already 90% sold out.

Every game day is special at Harold’s, of course, but when the Steelers played in Super Bowl XL it was a very special day. Over 3,500 fans showed up, which is over three times the limit set by the fire marshal. That wasn’t a problem, though, as Harold’s rented 25,000 square feet of tent space to accommodate the crowd. During the game, fans drank over 9,000 bottles of beer – half of which were Iron City lager, Pittsburgh’s home town brew.

It was even a momentous occasion for the city of Cave Creek, as Harold’s Super Bowl party more than doubled the population of the sleepy desert town.

Former Steelers such as Merrill Hoge, Mike Tomczak, Andy Russell and Cliff Stoudt are known to stop into the bar from time to time, so if you’re a Steelers fan looking for a historic place for your next sports vacation, consider rustic Cave Creek Arizona and stop into Harold’s. You never know who you might run into.
